Benefits: 

• Timber post & rail fences are a sturdy, durable & highly visible option, but can be expensive for installation & materials.
• Fencing can be safe for horses, and can be beneficial for horses to scratch on.

Drawbacks:

• Timber is rigid and when horses get spooked run at the fence this can cause injury to your horses.
• Timber grades vary considerably, and can degrade over time, potentially reducing the life of the fence.
• Broken timber posts can injure horses.
• Timber requires semi regular maintenance to treat/paint, check for splinters & chewing.
• Feral animals can easily move into your horse paddock, which can be a bio-security risk and add to grazing pressure.
• Timber will burn in most bush and grass fire prone conditions.

• Can often have superior flexibility, strength, weather resistance, especially when using the Waratah Flex Rail System.

• PVC is generally UV treated, but can degrade faster in wide temperate variant climates.
