Ballarat Saleyard Construction

During the planning of Ballarat’s new saleyard a Waratah Representative noticed a problem with the design. After a collaborative meeting with the Project Manager and the local Elders store, it was highlighted that the proposed design which was based off the Tamworth saleyard would not be suitable for the Victorian landscape and livestock requirements.

The new facility occupies 45 hectares of land located just off the Sunraysia Highway. An issue faced in the development stage was safeguarding the area the livestock would be contained. As most of the cattle and sheep are not accustomed to large groups of people, the risk of escaping had to be alleviated. To add extra strength to the design, the use of Ezypipe strainers with Jio Star and Jio MaxY post guaranteed a rock-solid barrier was installed. A combination of Waratah pre-fab fencing, high tensile barbed wire and hot wire were also used.

One of the highlights mentioned from the local contractor when installing the fence was the ease of use and manipulation. As the entire fencing efforts used Waratah products, alterations to the design could be carried out easily. Another benefit of the Waratah fence is that maintenance can be completed by persons onsite instead of hiring contractors.

The construction of the facility focused on using Australian made and locally sourced equipment. Waratah is proudly Australian made, from start to finish.
